SPirulian

Spirulina is a “cellular nutrition superfood”. It is a one-celled microscopic blue-green algae and one of the best sources of easy absorbed bio-available plant based protein.

Spirulina benefits in a nutshell:

  • Highly nutritional, Spirulina is packed with trace minerals, protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins A, K and B complex, iron, It is rich in chlorophyll, fatty and nucleic acids, and lipids.
  • It is a good source of Iron and B12 especially for vegetarians. Iron is easily absorbed compared to other supplements.
  • Spirulina is rich in gamma-linolenic acid or GLA, a compound found in breast milk that helps develop healthier babies. It is highly digestible thus very helpful in malnutrition. It supports the body to absorb nutrients when it has lost its ability to absorb normal forms of food.
  • Due to its ability to reduce the bad cholesterol LDL in the body, Spirulina helps prevent the onset of cardiovascular diseases, such as hardening of the arteries and strokes. It also helps lower blood pressure.
  • It stimulates beneficial flora like lactobacillus and bifidobacteria in the digestive tract.

Spirulina is available in tablets, capsule or powder form. I personally find tablets easier to carry while travelling. However when at home I use powder which I blend with coconut water. It’s important to buy only Organic and GMO free. There are a few good sources that I discovered –
