Ashwagandha literally means ‘smell or scent of a horse’. It is an Ayurvedic rasayana that has been highly valued in Ayurvedic Traditions treasured for its ability to revitalise and rejuvenate.
I came in touch with Ashwagandha when I was studying Ayurvedic therapies and nutrition in 1998. I have been taking Ashwagandha on and off since 2002. When I discovered SuperFeast Ashwagandha, it was like a completely new experience. I could taste and smell the actual herb. I also felt its effects quite soon after taking it. The very first time I took it, I felt a sense of calmness. After taking it daily for a week, I could see a difference in the quality of my sleep. It was restorative, deep and the duration of my sleep was now longer and not as broken as before. This came as a blessing for me to get a good night’s sleep. I also can handle stress better and don’t get easily disturbed. The inner resilience has also improved.
This extract is feelably more potent than any other extracts out there in the market. Most products are simply ground up powders of the Ashwagandha Root. Whereas this extract is processed by dual extraction method where all the healing compounds get fully extracted by hot water and alcohol extraction method, thus rendering a very pure and potent end product.
Benefits of this amazing tonic herb –
- a wonderful adaptogen to help us adapt to stress
- improves stamina
- promotes restorative sleep
- helps in grounding and centering the nervous system
- slows the ageing process
- enhances the reproductive potency for both men and women
- helps reduce anxiety and depression
It is not for the faint-hearted as the smell of the herb is pungent. However the taste is not as pungent. It has a profile of bitter, astringent and sweet all at the same time. It can be easily taken mixed in smoothie or simply in a small amount of yogurt or coconut cream to which you can add some honey. A little goes a long way. I take about 1/4 tsp a day and will gradually increase to 1/2 tsp.
It makes a great energising chai or a relaxing herbal tea mixed with chamomile flowers – perfect for that deep restorative sleep. I am sharing below a couple of videos by SuperFeast where they explain how to make Sleepy Ashwagandha Milk and Ashwagandha Chai
